Legendary Hong Kong

Had the chance to attend a food tasting at Legendary Hong Kong at Jurong Point, and even though I stay in the East, it was a good decision to come here. The menu was diverse, the whole restaurant setting made me feel like I was in Hong Kong, and the food was awesome!

Traditional Hong Kong Style Milk Tea in Bottle $4.80
I simply love this! The taste was just right and smooth. And this is how Hong Kong style milk tea should be served - in a bucket full of ice!

Shrimp Dumpling in Soup $7.80

 Wonton in Soup $7.80

Barbecued Platter (Roasted London Duck, Barbecued Pork, Crispy Pork Belly) $18.80

Crispy Fish Skin with Salted Egg Yolk $9.80

Braised Assorted Vegetables with Preserved Taro Sauce in Claypot $13.30
As a Cantonese, I actually liked this dish. Good to go with a bowl of rice.

Sorrowful Romance Rice (BBQ Pork & Sunny Side Up Egg on Rice) $10.80
If you watched the movie "The God of Cookery" (食神) by Stephen Chow, you would probably have heard of this dish before - 黯然銷魂飯.

Thick Rice Roll with Deep Fried Shrimp Rolls $6.80

 Crispy Egg Tart $1.80

Tossed Nissin Noodle with Chicken Fillet in Ginger & Scallion Sauce $9.30

Crispy Turnip Cake with Beancurd Skin Flakes $5.20
This actually is something new that I have never seen before - turnip cake in a new light.

Deep Fried Glutinous Dumplings Stuffed with Mixed Meats $5.00
Something new again, and it tasted good!

Braised Pig Liver with Ginger & Spring Onion in Claypot $15.30

Plain Rice Roll with Special Sauce $5.20
Not exactly the smoothest rice roll I have ever tasted, but this was still not bad.

Piggy Bun with Egg Custard $5.00
As usual, please do eat your buns while they are hot.

Custard Crust Bun with Butter $2.50
This was so good! Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. The buttery taste just blends so well with the bun! I really love this even though I'm not a fan of breads and buns.

We also had a huge galore of traditional desserts, like the steam milk pudding, sesame paste, almond paste, and black glutinous desserts. Well if you have had steam milk pudding from the famous restaurants in Hong Kong before (eg. Australian Dairy or Yee Shun), this actually pales in comparison. However, it was good enough if you want to compare with Singapore standards.

Christmas at Yum Cha Singapore

It's the holiday season, and Yum Cha Singapore has done it once again, with their new Christmas menu that consists of Instagram-worthy buns and Christmas-related food items.

Snowman bao $3.80++
This is one cute snowman you can't bear to devour, with sweet red bean at the top, and lotus paste at the bottom.

Christmas Festive Combination $8.80++
This exclusive Christmas dish consists of the Five Spice Turkey Roll, Roasted Turkey Bun and Cranberry Spring Roll with Chicken Floss. I especially loved the Five Spice Turkey Roll, which reminds me of ngo hiang, but with a Christmas spirit hahaha.

Little Twin Piglets, Panda bao $1.90 each
These are the cutest buns ever! Each different coloured piglet bun has their own special flavours - custard, matcha, cranberry, and so on!

Deep Fried Wasabi Duck Roll, 1 set of 4 pieces $8.80++

Fragrant Fried Rice with Seafood $16++

Steamed Cai Xin with Minced Pork and Chinese Sausage $18++

Xiao Long Bao
Not a part of our food tasting but we ordered it anyway, and boy was it good. I've never tried xiao long bao that has such chewy skin!

Pomelo Sago in Mango Juice $4.80++

So Yum Cha actually launched a new concept called the Yum Cha Express.

Much of the dimsum can be found here for customers on the go.

At the kiosk, you can find their new range of freshly brewed premium teas:
such as these Chrysanthemum Tea with Goji Berries and Jasmine Lemon Tea with Ginger.

They also recently launched these Salted Egg Fish Skin; Crispy Silver Fish in easy takeaway packagings.

The cute baos are available here too!

Just a small note, DO make sure you quickly snap your Instagram-worthy shots of the cute baos.
Otherwise, cold buns are never good.

The Christmas menu is only available from 1st December 2017 to 1st January 2018.
Yum Cha members will enjoy 20% off on all Christmas seasonal dimsum treats!

Matsuya Sushi Bar Lunch Special

Had the opportunity to go for a food tasting at Matsuya Sushi Bar.

My favourite food is sashimi, so I was really excited to try the food there.

The few bowls shown below are only available during their lunch special.

Otoro Don $48 (includes miso soup)
The otoro is the best part of the tuna. After having this, I decided that my favourite sashimi is not salmon anymore, but otoro!

Chirashi Don $30 (includes miso soup)

Aburi Chirashi Don $28 (includes miso soup)

Wagyu Don $40 (includes miso soup and pickles)

Tori Don $15 (includes miso soup and pickles)

Unagi Don $22 (includes miso soup and pickles)

Salmon Aburi Maki $18

The price is really worth it for the good quality of the food!

Lunch Special menu here:

Sashimi here was fresh. All the bowls, including the tori and unagi bowls, were also surprisingly good. My favs are the Otoro and Wagyu dons. Pricier yes, but totally worth it!
Thanks Matsuya Sushi Bar for hosting, and Ken for the invite!

Fart Tartz Cafe

Visited Fart Tartz cafe at Chinatown the other day.

I had actually visited their first branch at Expo few years back and was excited to try the food again after these years.

Never knew that they had such an extensive menu of mains and pastas considering the small size of the cafe. But what thrilled me the most was that they had a lot of mentaiko-inspired food in their menu. (psst I love mentaiko!)

Gooey Mentaiko Fish $17.90
Grilled flatbread burger with generous amount of mentaiko.

Red Caviar Mentai S18.90
My favourite pasta of them all, cos mentaiko. hahaha

Aburi Mentaiko Mac & Cheese $17.90
Really generous portion of mentaiko and cheese. This is definitely recommended for sharing due to the rich flavours.

Herby Vongolio $14.90
It can be tricky eating the pastas in jars, so the lady boss mentioned that we could actually pour out the contents onto the plate!

Lemony Garlicky Prawn S14.90

Golden Salted Egg Yolk $15.90

Begedil Sarnie $15.90
Say what? Begedil! Who can resist this potato goodness?

From left to right:
Green Apple Soda $4.90
Apricot Peach Fruit tea (iced) $5.50
Lychee Lemongrass Freeze $8

Top left and bottom hot drinks:
Rose Hua Cha Black tea (hot) $4.20
Matcha Latte $6.50

Flower-Potted “Mud” Tarts:
Nutella Oreo and Matcha flavours $5.60 each
These are non-bake specialty cheese tarts which are most instagram-worthy. Please do not confuse the 3 ornament plants behind as one of the desserts.

Lava Cake in Jar $13.90
I preferred this to the flower-potted mud tarts. It could be too sweet for some, but for people with a sweet tooth (like me), it's fine!

Menu:

Although the desserts are really instagram-worthy, I personally prefer the mains more.
However, I recommend sharing some of the mains, as those pastas with rich sauces, like salted egg and mentaiko ones, can get a bit jelak after a while. (well, it also means they are really generous with the sauces!)

Good news! Their 3rd branch would be opening in Yishun Junction 9 on 26 June 2017!
They must be doing something right in order to have more cafes opening around Singapore right?
