Hair Colouring at Keolleobar

It has been a while since my last hair dye, and what better time to go for a new hair colour at Keolleobar before embarking on my honeymoon trip this June!

Keolleosg occupies 4 units in the building and does various hair and beauty services.

Keolleoglam at level 2 looks like a girl's dream! Super pink and pretty.

Keolleobar at level 3 is for hair services.

I didn't want to bleach my hair, so Kito, my hairstylist for the day, asked if I wanted cool or warm colour tones. With his professionalism and suggestion, I went for the warm reddish tones that would go well with my skin colour.

Before and After

The process was fuss free and I felt very comfortable throughout.

I also did a Milbon hair treatment recommended by him, since my hair was too dry and damaged and is in need of some TLC.

Indeed, my hair feels much smoother and frizz free even after a hair colour session, thanks to the treatment!

Do check out their Instagram or Facebook page to learn more about current promotions and offers.

How to get there?
The location is super convenient, as it is at Bugis Cube, just a few minutes walk away from Bugis Junction (traffic light near Swensen's) if you are coming by MRT.

Experience Penang

Penang. One of the most visited tourist destinations in Malaysia. Finally documenting my short trip in 2019. I know I know, 2 years late. But better late then never. right?

Penang is a food haven. And these are the places I visited during the 4D3N there:

Kafka Penang
Chulia Street Hawkers
Manchu Penang
Backdoor Bodega
China House
The Canteen at China House
Penang Road Famous Laksa
Penang Road Famous Teochew Chendul
Joo Hooi Cafe
The Alley Penang
Hazels Murmur
Constant Gardener Coffee
Selfie Coffee @ Jupiter's Bay

Kafka Penang

After checking into our hotel, a friend who stays in Penang drove us to this cafe just cos we wanted to start off with the rich cafe culture here.

15, Jalan Kelawai, George Town

We went to the alley where a lot of bubble tea brands reside. Since the other brands are also found in Singapore, we decided to visit this brand.

RM 13.90/2pax

172, Jalan Hutton, George Town

Chulia Street Hawkers

We were staying super near this line of street hawkers who will open up every 6pm-12am. So decided to try some of the food there, like the Wanton Mee, Char Kway Teow, and Lor Bak.  It was so near our hotel we decided to dabao the CKT back instead.

RM 6 for Wanton Mee
RM 8 for Lor Bak
RM7 for Char Kway Teow

Chulia Street, George Town

Manchu Penang

Our Penang friend brought us to this really cool oriental-inspired bar which has a non-existent hidden door. Really cool, crowded and well liked by the audiences.

RM 77/Asahi

38 & 40, Jalan Pintal Tali, George Town

Backdoor Bodega

Another cool hidden bar. This was totally off the radar as we had to walk through another shop, all the way into the back of it, before going into a unassuming backdoor to reach this bar. IT. WAS. SO. COOL. Bartenders also could concoct something based on your preferences. My fav place so far during the trip.

RM 200/3pax
37, Jalan Gurdwara, George Town

China House

One of the most famous eateries in Penang, I do not know anyone who will miss this place when they are visiting Penang for the first time. I love the cakes, especially the Tiramisu. For a cake lover like me, this is heaven.

RM 94.75/2pax

153, Beach Street, Georgetown

The Canteen at China House

This was the bar side of the China House eatery. Atmosphere was totally amazing and everyone was high, music was good. Damn I miss this place,

RM 75.05/2pax

183B, Lebuh Victoria, George Town

Penang Road Famous Laksa

When in Penang, must try their famous Penang Laksa! However, I didn't feel very wowed by this as I think I could find something similar in Singapore as well.

RM 5.50/bowl

5 Lebuh Keng Kwee, George Town

Penang Road Famous Teochew Chendul

Right on the street where we tried the laksa, so we visited the supposedly famous cendol. Not sure if its because I wasn't really a cendol fan to begin with, or it was the wrong stall?

RM 3.20/bowl

4 2, Lebuh Keng Kwee, George Town

Joo Hooi Cafe

Oyster omelette here was so so. Think I can find better ones in SG and JB. But what's good about this place was that, you could sit down and order the Penang Road Famous Teochew Chendul at the same time and will be served.

475, Jalan Penang, George Town

The Alley Penang

Got to know some really cool people while we were drinking at Backdoor Bodega and found out they were working at this cafe, so we decided to visit this place!

RM 33/2pax

5, Stewart Lane, Georgetown

Hazels Murmur

Visited our friend's newly opened cafe. At the time of my writing, it has since changed owners :(

RM 70/2pax

11, Jalan Tanjung Bungah

Constant Gardener Coffee

Apparently one of the most famous baristas reside here. I had to come try their coffee!

Ground Floor, Penang Chinese Chamber Of Commerce Building, 9, Lebuh Light, George Town

Selfie Coffee @ Jupiter's Bay

Our last bar before we leave Penang. It had shisha, which my friend really wanted to try. Was also stalked by this creepy looking guy while we were sitting outdoors with our drinks and shisha, but the staff kindly helped to chase him away.

RM 40/2pax

37, Love Lane, George Town

We got stopped halfway too at another occasion while walking past a tipsy guy and he spouted some gibberish as well. The best thing to do? Be very aware of your personal belongings (cos you never know if they are just trying to distract you and pick-pocket) and just smile and walk away. (well if they look creepy then don't smile at all hahah)

Well, even though Penang was a pretty safe place, do be careful when going to night places like bars and clubs. After all, these are the places where creeps will prey on unknowing victims.

All in all, I loved my trip to Penang and would totally revisit again!

Lao Xie Zhen Collagen Beauty Essence Review

Hao Yi Kang is a local platform providing specially curated health products for consumer's healthy living needs. They are the sole distributor of Lao Xie Zhen, a 90 year old brand from Taiwan.

Their newest collagen supplement in the market, the Lao Xie Zhen Collagen Beauty Essence, is a proprietary formula from Japan consisting of a patented Nano Collagen Peptide (PO‧OG) and four types of plant polyphenol (beetroot, figs, hawthorn and acerola cherries). It was recently awarded the Best Collagen Supplement (Editor's Choice) by Daily Vanity Singapore!
Rich in nano collagen peptide (5000mg), antioxidants and vitamin C, the collagen essence encourages the production and absorption of collagen within the body, achieving radiant skin from within. Packed with four amazing superfoods, it also helps to promote metabolism and aid digestion. In addition, it is 100% natural without any artificial flavouring, additives, preservatives and stabilizer. Anti-aging supplements at its best!

When to consume?
- Before breakfast
- After exercising
- Before bed

Ways to consume?
- Straight out of the sachet at room temperature
- Pour into cup and have it warmed
- Add ice to have it cold
- Adding a bit of honey to sweeten the taste

I really hated taking collagen products in the past as there are some in the market that tastes fishy, some artificially sweet (to mask the fishy taste, I guess?), and most of them are in powder form, which means you need to mix them with water... which lazy people like me will not use in the long run.

The Lao Xie Zhen Collagen Beauty Essence however, has a tinge of earthy beetroot taste. After drinking a few more sips though, it might be a little overwhelming, but I'm glad that one packet is actually quite little at 65ml and easy to finish quickly. Some additional tips as well: adding a little honey helps to sweeten the drink if you don't like the taste of beetroot! Besides that, I like that I can just drink it soooo conveniently!

Do note that as with all beauty products and collagen essences out there, you would need to take this supplement diligently over a period of time to see the effects. As with the example of a, say face moisturiser, if you stop using it after a while, the effects will definitely wear off. That's the price we have to pay for beauty!

Do check out their website for more details! They have other products like chicken essence and ginseng essence as well!

JHGC Scalp Treatment Review

Due to our fast-paced lifestyle, bad sleeping habits, stress, hormones, and many other reasons, many people (young included) experience some form of hair loss.

So I went to Japan Hair Growth Consultants (JHGC) recently to try out their Intensive Hair Growth Treatment. JHGC (known as BIOTECH in Japan) is the pioneer of hair restoration and hair growth industry. They are primarily concerned about hair loss prevention and hair growth at its best.

These are the steps I experienced:

1. Consultation
The consultant will first do a scalp analysis to see my main problems and then suggest the next course of action. My scalp has a lot of built up sebum which is blocking some of the hair follicles. A clean scalp is essential before we even apply any hair tonic etc. to aid in hair growth! Look at the how oily my scalp is even though I normally wash my hair daily, and see the thick sebum here!

2. Scalp care agent
Then, I was showed to the hair care area where they will apply the scalp care agent to stimulate hair growth.

3. Far-infrared steam
Using the far-infrared steam, it helps to open up the pores on my scalp and allow sebum deep in the pores to resurface!

4. Scalp massage
Now's the fun part. I then proceeded to the wash area for the staff to apply a special massaging technique from Japan. This helps to rub out sebum that has been resurfaced by the earlier process.

5. Shampoo
After which, the sebum are washed away with the original amino acid-based shampoo.

6. Scalp revitalizer and steam
The staff then applies this scalp revitalizer and steam my scalp

7. Hair tonics and Ozone irradiation
Now, the staff will apply the hair tonic that penetrates to the pores and promote hair growth. Lastly, the UFO-looking machine is back, but this time, to help refresh my scalp and strengthen the hair.

8. Dry hair
They then finished off with a special hair dryer to dry my hair!

At the end, the consultant will analyse my scalp again to see the after-effects of the treatment. Look at how clean my scalp is now!

However, I would like to highlight that it would take a few months of regular sessions with them to really see the effects of hair growth as this doesn't happen overnight! With a clean scalp, only then will hair growth products be able to do wonders on your scalp and then see the differences!

Thank you JHGC!
